Hey Cthulhu's Librarian

I've always wanted to ask you, which library to you work at?

Just wondering as I attended UVa and worked part-time shelving in Alderman for two years in the early 90's.

I work at Alderman. I'm the Digital Microforms Specialist (ie. I deal with microfilm, microfiche, and the scanning of said formats), and I am also an LSP (tech support) for the HumSoc department. Who did you work for when you were here?

I worked for guy named Don, I believe (forget his last name). I also remember a guy named Hal, but those are the only names of permanent-type employees I can recall. I was usually assigned to the bottom floor as I was an Asian Studies major. Specifically I was there 89-90 and 91-92 (was studying in Japan in the intervening year).

Hmm, no Don or Hal here now. But you were here quite a while ago. If you should ever be back in C'ville (I know it's a long way from Tokyo) and want to stop by the library, feel free to look me up!

Ok, sure! I've only been back twice since graduation but I'll do that if I'm still on ENWorld.

I envy you though. I loved exploring Alderman, something I never would have done had I not gotten that part-time job. Probably my favorite area was the old periodicals on the bottom floor. Amazing to take a book of magazines down and read about the writer's concerns about Napoleon III. Or for me reading the pre-war Japanese magazines with their anti-American jingoism. Never was allowed back to see Jefferson's letters or anything though. Something you probably have been able to do.

Speaking of Cthulhu and Alderman, I checked out the first Lovecraft I ever read from there as well. If I recall correctly the Lovecraft selection wasn't so good at the time.

Yes, Alderman is a pretty impressive library. I love working here. I haven't been able to see any of Jefferson's letters, but I have had a short tour of Special Collections. There is some pretty cool stuff there. I did get to see a couple of Babylonian stone tablets, and some illuminated bibles from the middle ages.

The Lovecraft selection is still pretty poor, but I do occasionally request books for purchase, in order to fill in some gaps.
