D&D 5E "Hey, i know a guy..."

So have a concept-to-character puzzle for you.

Lets say your character's thing, one of the major things, is the idea of being the guy who "knows a guy..." - basically a man of many contacts.

So what are some build and choice of feature examples that you would think make this a solid character with a fairly unique flavor?

Obviously there are some, well, obvious choices...
Sage backgrounds, criminal backgrounds etc... bard class... others tend to jump out as good starting points but there are surely a lot of other options.

So, to start, think 5e RAW not homebrew...

So, what you got? Race, feat, background, class(es)?

3 Mastermind Rogue/3 Whispers Bard/2 Enchanter Wizard with the Charlatan or Criminal background seems like a good start.

For races, I would recommend Variant Human (for the Actor feat).

Solid. All I'd add is SCAG's Urban Bounty Hunter background for its Ear to the Ground feature.

Quick question... what sub-class features of the Whispers leads you to suggest it? Is it the 14th level fear one?
