Usually we don't stop it, or even minimise it. We're there to have fun and socialise. The game is mostly a kind of optional extra. I've been at a session where two players were playing Halo 2 and still managing to contribute to the RPG at the same time. I'm still not quite sure how.
second that... well not the halo part but we did play lots of guitar hero last time :)
 

My problem with getting side tracked is feeling that as a group we didn't get far in the adventure when the night is over. We play two 4 hour sessions a month, and we've stretched out the same dungeon crawl for the three months now.
