Hey, Oathbound fanboys - what's the deal?

Figured that would get your attention! Okay, I've seen a very positive Oathbound review, and went from there to check the Bastion website.

However, my gut reaction is that it is a very disjointed setting, which gives me continuity concerns. It also didn't seem overly unique, besides piecing together normal content from a bunch of other kinds of settings.

Now then. I want to be super clear that this is NOT a troll or flame. It IS a request. I'd like you to "sell me on it". Why do you like it so? Tell me about flavor. Point me to story hours (preferably ones that don't read like a novel, or some sort of soap opera of tangled webs.) In other words, make me see it the way you do. Get me excited about it. Make me want to run out and buy it.

Thanks!

Inclusive - yes. Disjointed - no. As for it being unique, I find the premise more unique than most other offerings from the past few years. I would recommend downloading the introduction from the website. That does more justice than I possibly could.

One other thing to look at are the free adventures that are posted :D

Oh, and as a designer who has done extensive work on Oathbound, I don't consider myself a fanboy, so does my response count?

I like campaign worlds that are malleable. Oathbound is a malleable world with a built in story mechanic that allows you as the DM to make anything happen whenever you want. It is not meant to be a tight nit world that is clearly defined. It is left open ended so that you as the DM can do whatever you want and not have to worry about what has been published. That alone attracts me. So I bought it. I haven't ran it yet, but that is because I will be moving across country soon and am trying to wrap up my current campaign before doing so.

Sell you on Oathbound? Read the first chapter of the book. You will either like it or think it sucks. I think it is good. You may think it is a waste. Only one real way for you to find out.

To me, Oathbound represents the epitome of a world for adventurers.

Every realm in the setting is rich with ideas for adventure (or, for me anyway, inspiring them). The number of ruins is vast, and the opportunities for role-playing abound. The designers created a very interesting political dynamic in the (extremely large) city of Penance.

The concept of prestige races is also introduced in Oathbound. This allows characters to give up XP for special racial abilities.

Also, if you purchased "Minions" from Bastion, the setting brings those monsters to life better than "Minions" did by itself.

I highly recommend it.

lol Ash!!!

I did check out the introduction. I like the fact that it is built from the introduction on to accommodate bringing an existing party into the Oathbound setting.

It does indeed seem much like Planescape in a lot of regards. And, it has a lot of seemingly separate areas with their own "flavor", but the nexus nature of the setting makes that OK.

Still checking out the adventures and such.
