High Level DnD PbP: Can it be done?

Some of these ideas were useful and gave me hope that maybe I could do this.

On the down side, I would want an electronic copy of City of Brass to do this, and for some reason, this disappeared from RPGnow last month.

Perhaps the fastest way to run an combat encounter would be E=N+2, where E is the number of posts for the whole encounter and N is the number of players, and 2 the number of DM posts. So, the DM posts outlining the situation, each player posts explaining how they want their characters to respond, the DM posts describing how the encounter played out.

I would tend to allow a period of ooc discussion after the initial DM post to allow players to ask questions and confirm details, as well as co-ordinate their character's actions. But all of this would be done in the ooc thread.

Of course, it changes the ball game quite significantly. Its more strategy than first person shooter. I think it would be quite interesting, especially as a player. But a lot of people would hate it. So recruiting the right group of people would be essential. Or, more accurately, outlining from the get go what you are planning would be essential.
