High Magic

First Post
Hey! I'm kinda writing this real quick, but I need ally y'all's advice. I want to have "High Magic" (i.e. "Elven High Magic") somehow involved in my campaign world, but have no idea what it should be. Any Ideas? So far, my thoughts were:

Magic gained when one reaches some kind of spiritual connection w/ the universe

Magic given as a gift by the world's pantheon-head.

Magic involving calling on a higher power (celestials, gods, etc.) in some way

Any of y'all have any more ideas or any ways to elaborate on the ones above? If you do please post, cause I've got total mental block goin' on.

Are you looking for ideas of origin for the power or ideas for a system?

Hmm. Elves could be the stewards of the heavens. Each elf is connected to the life of a star- and is therefor hard to destroy forever. Whenever the mortal shell of the elf dies, they are reincarnated in the form of a baby elf.

The only time an elf dies forever is when a star falls from the heaven, but that takes a magic beyond most mortals.

Magic given as a gift by the world's pantheon-head.

Elves could be the first children of the world. They were formed in the garden of eden and were given the abilities to shephard the garden and its denezins.

Make a cleric. :) Or perhaps only elves can be paladins- it becomes their racial preference class.

Good luck

Thanx! Yeah, I needed ideas for the origin of the power. Once I figure that out, maybe I'll ask the house-rules folks to halp me with a system.

And to anyone else who reads this thread, contribute any ideas at all, I wanna have a wide range to choose from.
