So I convinced my group to let me run a Gamma World game for my birthday.
"Happy Birthday to me! Happy Birthday to me!"
Ahem.
I used the recent "based on 4e D&D" edition. I don't know what edition that is. Eighty-three and a half?
What I like is the tradition of taking your local and "Gamma Worlding" it. It's also what I liked about mid-90s WoD. Is that still a thing in WoD? IDK. So what I did was use a local town, Santa Cruz and weird it up.
Encounters included giant faun, flying lobsters, ghost hippies in a drum circle, and hipster vampires. I also threw-in references to the Hoffman Institute, cause why not?
I'm particularly proud of the hipster vampires. They had powers like "I was into that before you", a power that requires the attacker to re-roll the attack and apply the result to both the target and the attacker. There was another power called "that attack is so overrated" where they simply took half damage. They could only use one of those per-round.
This resulted in a situation where the hipster vampire was attacked, chose to use "I was into that before you" and not only did the second attack hit, it one-shotted the vampire. The attacker (a sentient alien weather ballon from Roswell), was bloodied, but not killed. It was hilarious.
