Hiring an NPC rogue

I am currently a player in a Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil campaign. Our party is a bit odd... We have a Clr7, Pal7, Mnk7 and Drd7. Not much in the way of trap finders or treasure sniffers, as it were. We just finished kicking the crap out of the people in the Air Temple, but I have a suspicion we are missing some good stuff (We found a note about a hidden gem called Tulian's Eye, and I'd like to find it). So, I figured we could hire a rogue in Verona (ummm, don't know what it is in Greyhawk/RttToEE speak... largest city nearby, 40K gp limit).
So, the GM and I looked in the DMG. "Hmmm... Hirelings, pg xxx. Great!" However, the Hirelings section in the DMG is a little sketchy. Only the NPC classes seem to be represented.
Can anyone give us some ideas in this area? How much would it cost to hire a rogue of level X for Y weeks? Would you use one of the NPC rogues from the DMG, or something else as a standard?

Thanks,
    Jason

Well, as someone DMing (actually the same module, with a group at the exact same point, no less) a group, if I knew the PCs were going to go out thief hunting, I'd arrange one (or more, depending on where you are looking) candidates as interesting, distinct NPCs.

Then see who the PCs choose to discuss terms with, and roleplay the NPCs based on their personalities and alignment.

Obviously, a thrill seeking rogue out looking for the adrenaline rush of life in an adventuring band is going to be less demanding on price than, say, a penny pinching treasure-hoarding rogue that is reluctant to join any group unless the contract is very much written in his favor.

Such considerations aside, I think rogue would be one of the more expensive types of hirelings...the demands on them usually involve scouting, trapfinding, and trap disarming....3 very dangerous asignments.

I suggest an average rogue demand a share and a half of the treasure obtained from his searching, with a minimum set high enough to make it worth his while even if nothing of value is obtained.

So, you think the price should be predicated solely on what the rogue finds, rather than a fee, with a bonus for finding stuff? I don't think I'd negotiate such a contract...
Any other ideas or suggestions? Aren't there guidelines for this somewhere?

Thanks,
