History Publications?

Darklance

First Post
I read in another thread that someone was reading publications (I assume he means magazines or some other frequently published system based on the context) about ancient history. Does something along the lines of this exist? What I'm interested in is articles/debates about ancient civilizations and their customs. Anything out there like that? Thanks.

If ever the phrase do not judge a book by it's cover had greater meaning, I don't know of it. THe supplements are good and I use them. The covers I just ignore.

Greetings!

Well, I subscribe to the MHQ--Military History Quarterly, which is an excellent professional historical journal--that is, aside from being professionally done, it's *content* is actually entirely professionally done by top-ranked scholars of history. Certainly though a number of the topics and articles are debated, they are none the less authoritative, and quite sufficient for any scholarly or professional use. They feature excellent maps, color drawings, some b/w, with excellent articles of dense writing that covers a broad range of history, from ancient armies and battles, all the way through the Civil War, WWI, WWII, and through to the Gulf War. It is a very good journal, it comes out only four times a year, is just great all around, and it only costs $10. I highly recommend MHQ. Try finding it in good game and hobby stores, as well as excellent book stores.:)

And, for the first two years, each issue was a thin hardback book. Impressive, no?

And of course there are more academic journals like:

Scholia : Natal studies in classical antiquity
Dionysius
Athenaeum
The Journal of Roman studies
Antichthon
Helios
Hermes
The Phoenix

Or online journals like:

American journal of philology

Arethusa

Although the online ones might be difficult to access if you're not part of an institution.
