[HIVEMIND] It's Alive! It's Alive!

Why me??? :D

I'm not sure what is happening; I won't repeat the email here, as it contains swearing, but how the heck did he get a spreadsheet? It is a Word document, and I thought Mac's could read them?

Well it sounds like he couldn’t actually open the spreadsheet. Here’s a scenario. I don’t have WINZIP. If I try to open a zipped document (ie click on doc link on your site and request open) it will try to open it into Excel for some reason … not b/c it is an excel file but b/c it is an unrecognisable file type. Your blurb on the site .doc and .zip does kind of make it sound as though you have a choice to download as an ZIP or a DOC file. Having said that no need to be rude in private or public.

Hmm, that's interesting. I wonder why it tries to open it as a spreadsheet? Weird, I say!

I might go through and change the .doc and .zip files to .zip... or just say it is a compressed doc file.

It’s a sad, sad day when everything has to be made completely idiot-proof. I don’t understand why people don’t look for the problem in what they’ve done before they start writing people nasty emails.

Yep. I told him politely to check his facts, and that I would send him the uncompressed copy... no response yet.

To ensure I wasn't being unfair, just pinched a colleagues computer (with winzip) whilst they were out to lunch ... downloaded, unzipped, opened into word. No problems.

Must be nearing time for a new thread.

Thanks for that :)

Still 35 posts to go yet... but if you wanna start the new thread, be my guest :)

No, no must let this one fully live out it’s remaining life span of 33 posts. Far be it from me to cut the thread short in the prime of its life ... glances at avatar, makes apologetic coughing noise.

New topic of conversation: A friend is starting up a pbp 3.5 game at 5th level. What chance do you think I have of convincing him to let me play a pixie first level sorceror? Pixies are meant to be equivalent to 4 levels there's that nice section on converting them to characters ... still think that they'd be very overpowered compared to the other characters. Though having only 4 hit points is a significant disadvantage. Hmmmm maybe I should post this is rules or something and get some views.

Edit to change 34 posts to 33: Goodnight Ashwyn.

Goodnight ash.

If it was my campaign, I'd let you; but mainly 'coz I like how annoying pixies are! I used to play as one in a 2nd edition campaign.

Have you got the new Monster Manual? A 1st level pixie is ECL 5, or ECL 7 if they can use otto's irresistable dance. They have a lot of abilities, but only 3 hit points average (they use a d6).

Ahhh yes and annoying is my speciality in my characters ... I'm a past expert at the fine line between party disruptive and just amusing and annoying. Nothing like having the rest of the party laughing and wanting to kill you simultaneously. :D

Yes, I have got the new MM ... he's running a campaign starting at level 5, so 1st level pixie should be a goer. We'll see. I've emailed him to ask. So much potential! If not I'm opting for a halfling rogue with a sling possessed by my great-uncle Ernie - the pixie would possibly be less annoying.
