i'm okay. how're you?

it depends - it could be an interesting background choice. if the PC was 'called to duty' (divinely, or somesuch...) and had to leave their children to fight evil. i would think that the PC would want to stay fairly close to home, or stay as far away as possible. fantasy worlds are dangerous places to live

I'm good thanks! :D

Thana wasn't called to duty. She was a mercenary when she was younger, until she married and had children. Her husband stayed a mercenary after the kids were born, but he was killed. She doesn't have many skills other than fighting, so she's returned to her old way of life to keep the kids fed and clothed.

Him :)

All the players are really good actually. The characters are really strong. I'm just trying to match up! I like the idea of Thana, and she should be interesting to play. :D

Im just venting some dissapointment I have to some of my players. It make DMing so much harder if the players dont put in a full 100%. Besides I haven't played enough d20, I only run . I feel that I should play more, It would help getting a more indepth feel for the system.

so any enemies should expect that the kids can use martial weapons (?) :p

i would think that would work as a background as long as whomever the kids were left with could defend them so she felt the kids were safe (like that crazy uncle who just happens to be a high level fighter :D )

So here's a question for you guys. Thana has a purchashing dilemma:

Because of our DM's slightly different (ahem) wealth system, Thana, though 9th level, only has 4,500 gold to spend. Half of that went on her bow: +1 mighty composite longbow that allows a strength bonus of +3.

She has two kids. Does she spend 1,000 gold on magic armour, or a house?

you could reason that she sold her house to afford to go adventure...

(and 1000 gp doesn't buy much of anything in the way of magic armor. +1 armor is is 1000 gp plus the cost of masterwork armor)

I would say a house, but she might have the armor left from the old days??

Maybe some convincing of the dm could get you both :)

She could buy chain shirt +1 for 1,250. That would probably be what I go for.

Or she could buy a simple house.

She can afford ordinary armour on top of the house. :) But she's not likely to sell off the house for anything. The question is, does she rent?

She leaves the kids with a nanny, by the way. They live in quite a safe town. Anyway, the older of the boys does fancy himself a dab hand with a rapier. (Not that she'd ever let him get within 100 yards of combat.)

And no, Maldur, I'm not running anything at the moment. :(
