Not even close. The movie is a classic, one of the true great realistic movies of all time.

Ugh. IMHO, it's a pretty bad film once it gets past a certain point, not only being bowel-wrenchingly slow but then just descending into stupidity.

But then, to be honest, the only good thing about the book itself was the way in which it foreshadowed so many later ideas. The actual story line descended into direness from which it just didn't recover

Not me. You can tell because HAL was always using the same phrase over and over again. I would have mixed it up with other things HAL from the movie had said.
