Sheesh. That's a tough question. I was kind of hoping I could slide that one in there and not be questioned on it. It took me several minutes to write the original lost post, this one is taking longer.
OK. First off there is the necessary evil of levels. I know that there are level free systems out there, but they tend in my mind, to lead to abuse. Several of the characters from my novel don't fit well into DnD terms, and not necessariuly because they are too powerful. Sometimes its a question of having skills that the game does not normally allow. Characters in my novel are at once, weaker and more powerful than those found in a game.

Another issue I have is in freeform actions, or times when the rules do not adequetly handle a situation, I may make a fast and dirty decision, allowing the action, and moving on with a higher than normal DC, only to be countered by rules lawyers arguing that its not in the rules.
I'll get back to you on this. I am seeing, in writing my post that it may be as much a part of my players, rather than the system for that last issue.
