Going along with the above...how many of you already knew that Judy Garland was on some pretty serious drugs while she shot that film?

And I'm dead serious here. She had to be the 'child star' for that film, and so the studio and producers made sure she had plenty of 'uppers' during the day to keep her fresh and perky, and then some 'downers' before she went home to ensure she could sleep at night. It's all true, if you do some research.

Of course it can be read as a hallucination, and the wilder the better in my view. :D

I had heard that about the drugs. And actually, the whole thing makes sense as a hallucination.

Michael, hope you didn't see the reply I made in your chatroom thread as a personal attack but your "blatent"assumption really peeved me :(

btw Welcome in the hive:D

I wasn't assuming that all of the hive is here because of certain unnamed persons - sorry if it looked that way. Anyway, I will say no more because it takes too long to write responses on this topic - what with me combing my responses to make sure they are civil.

Lunch became calzones in the oven, so I post between house cleaning.

I knew about the Judy garland on drugs thing, and when I told my littel sister she broke down and cried. I actually felt guilty. See, my sister loved that movie, probably saw it 200 hundred times when we were wee.

Why not all. Remember the start to the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas??? (Again, a little Granny proofing)

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember saying something like "I feel a bit light headed, maybe you should drive...." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming: "Holy! What are these animals?" (attorney says: "What are you yelling about?") "Never mind, its your turn to drive." No point in mentioning those bats, I thought, the poor fellow will see them soon enough. We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all this for the trip, but once you get locked in a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that worried me was the ether, there is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge.

MMM, calzones. I only saw the movie once when I was a child, the monkeys freaked me way out. And I think i've only seen it once as an adult.

F&L, That movie was weird.

It scarier that "normal"excepted books and movies are, if you look at them differntly, become drug/hallucination trips.

Like Through the looking glass, or said Wizard of Oz:D
