HK Martial Arts Movies - for The Fool

First Post
I figured I'd start a new thread about this because it isn't "B-quality fantasy films".

If you liked Once Upon A Time In China I & II, you might like:

Fung Sai Yuk (I and II) - with Jet Li as the precocious martial artist, quite a bit of humour, and some cool fight scenes.

Iron Monkey - really good action, as a good bandit character fights the forces of the corrupt government and another martial artist (the father of the character in OUATIC) coerced into aiding them

Wing Chun - w. Michelle Yeoh. This is one of her best films, martial arts with comedy as she fights bandits and her long-ago boyfriend returns but doesn't recognize her any more

Fist of Legend - another Jet Li film, with quite possibly his best action of any of his movies. Set in 1930s Japan and Shanghai(?) as tensions between the Japanese and Chinese is intense

And actually getting into the B-quality HK movies:

Mr. Vampire - this is a very funny film w. not very good makeup, it's sort of the "HK Evil Dead". An old master and his two apprentices must deal with an incursion of Chinese hopping vampires and an amorous ghost

A Chinese Ghost Story - another funny HK film with the supernatural, this is about a scholar who falls in love with a ghost and must free her from her evil master

IRON MONKEY is an almost perfect classic. I love it, and I generally don't care for the wire stuff.

I'll throw one on top of your list. If we're talking about HK films with a fantasy feel...

SPOOKY ENCOUNTERS, aka CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE SPOOKY KIND starring Sammo Hung, is just one of the best kung fu movies I've ever seen, period. Hopping vampires, ghosts, sorcery, posession, and some of the greatest kung fu choreography I've ever had the pleasure of gazing upon. Here's a review: http://www.hkcinema.co.uk/reviewsdvdspooky.html

The end fight is just jaw-dropping. Sammo fights, posessed by the spirit of the Monkey King, and he uses a metal ring of some sort to incredible effect. Just terrific stuff. Plus... funny chicken scene.

ACGS is great. Notice how the swordsman guy was doing the "multiple arrows with one shot" thing way before Legolas, or even Cary Elwes in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. From a D&D PoV, the machinegun ghost-vaping spell even has material components!
