hey, i'm currently hosting a game i've made the story, universe, system and mostly everything from scratch.

storywise the characters are mercs(mercetsuki) a form for mercenaries and handy men, they do all kinda hard jobs like assasination, tracking, protection, about everything that's dangerous. the world has been at war with an unknown daemon host for 7 years while the players were caught in an illusion. well since only one character from the original crew is still alive most of the story is focusing around him :S.

their latest mission is to travel more or less through half the world, first under most of the northern mountains then through the war front.

in my world elves are creatures of myth, and dwarfs are unheard of. but the tunnels they are travelling are leading them into forgotten dwarven halls, most of the story are based around them saving the world from the evil and learning forgotten lore.

i have no problems creating lore for myself, and the main enemy in the mines are going to be a type of vampires that i made

well my problem is, i need stuff that they can go through, mazes, rooms, riddles everything that could be in an ancient dwarven realm. and as long as it doesn't include weapons, HIGH technology is OK, like projected images and the like. i just seem to have hit a wall when it comes ti that kinda ideas, while story is going great.

so if anyone could post things they think would help, and if some ppl r interested i could post the worlds story. cause it's a BIG LONG mountain chain and i need a lot.

sry for the bad English, i hope i get some help. :)

First of all I think your characters will need to get contact with the ancient dwarves as soon as possible. Maybe they stumble upon stone tablets or an interactive hologram. It would be great if they can use this information source as they travel through the halls. You need to have a way of describing the plot in detail, otherwise they'll simply stumble from one room to another.

Then I would make a list of twelve key words that are appropriate for the ambiance I'm trying to create. It could look something like this:

Darkness
Ancient
Sulphur
Eerie light
Runes
Alarm
Dolls (I chose dolls to contrast the bleakness of the rest of the key words.)
...

I'd create a string of boxes on a piece of paper and begin to name the places the characters will be travelling through. I'd use my list of key words to get inspiration for names.

The now named places will serve as inspiraton for the contents of each hall. I'd make sure to leave room for decisions on the part of the players. I'd also leave plenty of clues at each intersection so the players at least can make an educated guess of which path will lead to what.

Does this help?
