"I dunno, Pete; we know you're keen on making more hobbit movies, but we're not really sure if we can use another billion dollars. We'll have to think about it..."

Maybe they're afraid he'll come up short this time.

I wasn't aware that Peter Jackson was back on board - last I heard he and New Line had...parted ways.

I suddenly feel a whole lot better about "The Hobbit", I had heard all sorts of names bandied about including "shudder" JJ Abrams - bullet time arrows and multi slow-motion shots of hobbit feet darkened my nightmares.

PJ is producing. Guillermo del Toro is directing both flicks. PJ and New Line sorted things out (I think the pressure of potentially losing the rights to the Hobbit made things move along quickly).

Not sure if you`re making with the funny on this one or not (if you are, well done), but I`m thinking Peter Jackson paired with the Hobbit is about as much of a sure thing as you can get in Hollywood.

He was suing because Hollywood accounting was screwing him.

Yahoo News said:
A ticked-off federal judge in Los Angeles has ordered the studio to pony up a $125,000 penalty for failing to turn over documents related to the case, in which Jackson claims the studio used creative accounting to cheat him out of millions in royalties from the first chapter in his big-screen trilogy, 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

In his Sept. 18 ruling, U.S. Magistrate Steven Hillman said New Line not only failed to comply with his previous court orders to produce the paperwork and emails, but he suggests that New Line “haphazardly” searched for the requested documents and may have destroyed potential evidence.

The nightmares will be of a much higher quality. Guillermo del Toro's work with Pan's Labyrinth and Hellboy 2 fill me with hope of a darky magical Middle Earth ready to serve up dragon sized portions of Nightmare Fuel.

Yeah, I was trying to be...discreet. But the info you posted was awesome, thanks for the follow-ons.

And dark is good for the hobbit, it didn't really end all that cheery in the grand scheme of things. Starts bright, takes a turn for the AHHHHHHHH and then pulls into more of a general , *SIGH* what an adventure kind of mode. Del Toro can pull this off, especially with Jackson holding final purse strings.

I'm actually getting kind of excited about this now.
