Holy Crap! It's Almost here! I've got to PACK!!

Aye Cam. I'll be sure to drop by MWP - buy stuff - and say hello.

As for junk food in Indy... I got to motion with a "T" and call a time out.

Last year, on the drive down, we were stupid enough to stop at a "Big Boy". Quite possibly the worst burger I've ever had the misfortune of eating. We were all looking at one another as we got in the car, realizing we should NOT have eaten there. We were wounded for the next 5 hours. It was UNpleasant.

We did stop at the Steak 'n Shake when we got there, as the Ram was lined out to = oh = St. Louis or maybe Kansas City. It was hard to tell.

Nice wait staff. But those have got to be the tiniest fries in existence at Steak n' Shake. I thought someone deep fried the coleslaw.

Now this White Castle you speak of. Forgive me for just being a naive Canadian. Up here the local chains (megafood excepted) are Harveys or Licks.

After popping by the White Castle website, and having a look at their "tasty burgers".... I'm thinking.... Big Boy all over again.

So what's the deal with White Castle? Why do I want to go there? Sell me on it please :)

You probably don't. Most people I know (myself included) that get the occasional hankering for White Castle do so out of nostalgia. When I was in college and broke, they were a great source for large quantities of (at best) ok food for very cheap and available in the wee hours of the morning.

Go and rent 'Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle'. Then you might want to go just so you can say you did.

Ok, now I have the craving.

And why aren't they married to gamers? Kids today with their lack of foresight.
<SNIP>
QFT - This year I'm dragging the wife and carpet rodents along (although to be fair, my youngest is a Freshman in High School and my oldest is a Freshman in College)
This IS our family vacation.... WHOOOT!!! And to keep in that vein, we are bringing two married gamer couples along (one with their 400 children and the father's mother (granny) okay its actually 4, but it might as well be - they'll have 7 people in one room)

SACRIFICE!!! It's what GenCon is all about, well that and the gamer swag. :)

I am so pumped! It's as of this writing less than a week away. In fact, it's five days away! As far as I'm concerned though, it's four days away because the journey begins on Tuesday when the gang and I pile into my van to play The Esoterrorists on the way to Gen Con, going from CT to NY to PA to OH to IN! Wahooo!

Is there a White Castle within walking distance of the Convention Center? Gotta get my fix.

Beldar

oh NO! Yes it is. A friend of mine drug us down there in 05 and was always going off about how good the burgers are. I was not impressed with the place... but he enjoyed himself very much. Yesterday as we were posting our plans on our game board he says "I CANT WAIT TO WALK DOWN TO WHITECASTLE AGAIN" oh no.... that place is so ghetto...

But i have reservations for P.F. Changs so we are even. Enjoy your White Castle man! LOL

I just got my 4MB memory card for my digital camera, and I am stoked...! Lots of pictures will be taken this year - I'm not normally the snapshot guy, but this year I am the roving photog.

So you'll be taking, what, like 5 pictures with that tiny little card, then? :p

White Castle is an American Institution(tm), not unlike the LA/Oakland Raiders. People love to hate on em, but can't deny their greatness at 4am after a long night of drinking.

After some research, the closest analogue to White Castle in the great white north is: well, Dic Ann's in Montreal-ish area is close. Basically, a White Castle cheeseburger is about 2"x2" (3182dm x 72 hectares or whatever that is in Moon Units), comes with pickles and onions as its toppings, and is primarily composed of grease.

A friend of mine said it best, "There's two types of people in the world, people who like White Castle and stupid (*effing*) idiots."

Now that you've been educated on White Castle, I think I should offer you some alternatives for the drive down. If you're more into a Harvey's style burger, Burger King and Hardee's (if you can find one) are your best bets.

*sigh*

Allow me to sob into my after-shift beer.

Once again I am denied! Ah, cruel fate! That I would have a kitchen remodel and a step-daughter going to college. So close I was this year.

Alas.

Perhaps next year. Perhaps.

Sounds good. This is my first gencon and I cannot wait.

Well, you absolutely have to visit the Ram then-one of the best restaurants in Indy (and just a block from Gen Con on Illinois street.) The owner is a gamer and decorates the place for Gen Con, has a special D&D themed menu and runs fantasy & sci-fi movies on his big screen.
