Okay, I'm creating a god for the campaign I'm working on. I'll note that the world is not magic-centric; magic is almost LotRish in it's mysterious, not common, and definetly a thing to worry about.
The Gods are not just manifestations of People with Super powers; they are aspects they embody. For instance, the God of Storms and Weather has been depicted as a sentient thunderstorm. There is a god who represents the cycle of nature; the culling of the weak, the resiliance of the strong, life and death, etc, and has evil and good aspects, is dipected as various animals. So on.
This god is the God of Knowledge, Observation, Mysteries and Protection.
What I have so far:
The Church. The church is often both a library and one of the most defensible places in the area. Some sects of the church work much like Watchers; they go in, investigate, learn, and keep tabs. Others offer a safe place to stay, especially in rural areas. Infact, it may even run a 'witness protection program'. Often the church works with law inforcement via investigation, but there are many scholars, archaeologists and such who work with the church, to further it's knowledge. Often if there's something Strange, dangerous, etc happening, the clergy sends someone to find out what's up, and learn as much as they can. They do teach some offense, but mainly they rely on defense.
Dogma: Knowledge is power. Use this knowledge to better those around you, not hinder, use it for safety, not pain. Use your head before your strenght. Be a support for those who need you, a solid barrier against those who oppose you, and and an unmoving rock against those who are violent toward you. Defend those whom are not protected. Keep your eyes and ears open, always watch. Stoicness is a virtue, as is being calm; think before you speak.
Symbol: Either an Armored Book, or a Tower with a book upon it. Perhaps even an eye.
Okay, can anyone help me flesh this out more? How can I represent the 'Mystery' part of it, the 'hidden things', if at all? What is the God's depiction? What other domains can I tack on here except Knowledge and Protection?
