Holy Liberator Immunity question

Nowhere, does it say that immunities can be lowered. No where does it say that immunities are unbeatable spell resistance. They aren't either.

The holy liberator will just have to live with being immune to bless. These things happen.

I concur. I find nothing illogical about the HL not gaining the benefit of a few spells as a consequence of a powerful immunity. This is no more a 'problem' than when the monk becomes an Outsider.

Benefits that have minor disadvantages attached to them is a Good Thing in my book. IMHO, D&D doesn't follow this path often enough.

As a general rule, D&D doesn't do this _at all_ (see examples above). That's why I still think the HL should be allowed to lower immunity for beneficial compulsions.

Wow! I had no idea that this discussion would
get so involved. Anyhow, I do find it interesting
that the HL spell list includes both bless and
aid. Apparently, it is ok to "compel" others with
these spells, even if one is immune to them (in
addition, they also have the intimidate skill).

Not arguing for either side here, just stating
some additional facts.

Anyhow, thanks for the discussion. All points
of view provide food for thought here. I guess
the right answer so far is "ask your DM"

i can't say what answer is right or wrong, since i'm a big advocate for it's always right if it's for your campaign



however, i can talk about how my gaming group handles the holy liberator within the campaign, since my character is a holy liberator and has the ability in question:

1. he is immune to all effects that are charm or compulsion, whether it be from a spell, spell-like effect, innate ability, etc.

2. this includes beneficial effects as well.

i think i could've made more of a case to my DM to allow me to lower my immunity, but, personally, i felt that the immunity was a very powerful ability, so to balance it out, i thought it made sense to be immune to "good" effects as well. plus, i thought it would lead to some interesting role-playing situations.

i can't count the times that i was glad to have that ability, especially with party members being charmed left and right.
