Holy Symbols and Clerics?

I appreciate all the comment. It is not magical armor, though it seems like holy symbols, while not actually magical, have some magical (magic type) qualities to it.

Melting it down and reforging, or just trying to remove the symbol are certainly options. I was more worried about how to deal with him wearing it prior to removing the symbol. I think Mercule brings up a very good point about wearing the symbol is basically proclaiming that your deeds are in the service of that god. This obviously would not be good. I think requiring an atonement may be a good way to deal with this should he decide to wear it.

Thanks everybody for your input.

oh yes, deffinately just wearing it as is would be a no no....maybe if you wore a cloak over it to hide the symbol, but i would still try to imply to the player in some way that it seems sacriligious

Have the priest wear a tabard over the armour. I think that's what they are called.

Were is the Hextor Holy Symbol etched? In the breastplate? On each individual piece of armour? If it's just the breastplate, just get him to replace that section of armour. If the symbol is all over it, destroy the armour before the church of Hextor sends a bunch of knights to collect what they see as rightfully theirs.

He could probably remove the etchings without much difficulty unless you ruled they were protected by some divine power. Just by melting some steel or iron down, the etchings could be filled in, roughly or otherwise. The use of a tabard has been mentioned and is also a decent idea. Even just scratching across the symbol can be considered enough to make it plain. I wouldn't be surprised if there were heiro-orders that took pleasure in wearing defaced Hextor-guy armor.

I couldn't see many dangerous ramifications coming from wearing the armor that wouldn't come from killing it's wearer.. and that's already happened and isn't exactly reversable... perhaps- i don't know their levels ^_^
