Hi to all,

May be somebody knows how Holy, Unholy, Divine, Vile and unspecified tipe damage affects objects?

Are they doing full damage? Half damage? Quarter damage? No damage? Do they ignore hardeness?

Rules or FAQ reference would be helpfull.

Thanks in advance,

Anardyll

GM's call.

I generally don't worry about energy effects on objects, but if I had to make a call on aligned energy damage, I'd say that the damage only affects items that are of an opposing alignment.

For example, Holy Smite versus and evil sword might have an effect, but would leave a standard +2 ring of protection alone.

I would say that they apply to objects, the objects get hardness, but the damage is not halved. I have absolutely no basis in the rules for this, its just ho I'd rule it.

From the 3.5 SRD (the "Carrying, Movement, and Exploration" section):

"Energy Attacks: Acid and sonic attacks deal damage to most objects just as they do to creatures; roll damage and apply it normally after a successful hit. Electricity and fire attacks deal half damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 2 before applying the hardness. Cold attacks deal one-quarter damage to most objects; divide the damage dealt by 4 before applying the hardness."

Holy and Unholy aren't listed and, IIRC, only deal damage to opposing alignments under normal conditions so there's no reason why they would harm objects (unless the DM decided an object were especially good/evil).

Vile and Divine (lacking the Book of Exalted Deeds, I assume they mirror one another) may be another matter, though. They wouldn't be in the SRD. I lack even my BoVD now, so I can't quote anything, but I think the important thing to ask is: Do they normally deal damage an opponent regardless of alignment? If so, I'd probably consider them potent enough to damage objects. I'm not aware of any official rulings, though, which would make it a DM call.
