Homebrew Game of Death

Number47

First Post
Well, I've had quite a bit of idle time in both of the Games of Death I am currently in, so I thought I would get some opinions for my homebrew Game of Death. I might not actually even run it, but I thought nothing would be hurt by starting a discussion. What I decided to highlight are my rules for wild magic. These are pretty fresh, and I haven't officially added them to my campaign at all.

Here is a pdf with some info. Please, comment.

Your general campagin rules I like, per DMG with few changes.

The slotless magic items I believe are already rated as x2 in the DMG, but I could be wrong.

With wealth I've seen DM's use the EHB rule where nothing purchased can be over 1/3 total character value. (and I believe only 3 can be over 1/10 of that value). Personally, at low levels this seems a bit too stringent. Your system should work fine.

I checked out your PDF and it looks pretty neat. Inverted metamagic feats to lower spells down 1, 2, or 3 slots. I'm not sure if all of these would be very balanced (weak), but I do note that their appeal would for more of an academic spellcaster. I'm assuming that most people will want to upgrade spells and lower, for more oomph! not deflate them. Maybe you could group a few of them under one feat to make them seem more worthwhile. OTOH, what would happen if you gave them to the PC's for free?

Actually, I think the cost of one of these per metamagic to be fine. After all, a Minimized fireball does 1 pt/caster level over an area and is a zero level spell. Far better than any current zero level. I am more than happy, though, even if nobody actually used the feats. They are there to more easily explain bad results for wild surges, just as good results might get positive metamagic feats applied.

You'll note that the opposite of Quicken is Sluggish, but it only provides a 1-level decrease opposed to Quicken's 4-level increase. I thought the cost/benefit to be more in line that way.

Since the seasong one seems to have died, I'm very interested in this one, if you decide to run it, Since i abhor spell casters, those rules don't affect me much.

What races would you allow? still only the 3 core books?

Although I have my own homebrew races, I think I will leave them on the shelf for this one. So, only the races allowed in the PHB, or any guidelines for monster PCs that might or might not be in 3.5 DMG.

I won't even start seriously looking at this until I have the 3.5 books in hand. You got time. Undecided on arena, was thinking of making a "city" arena, just to be different.

As good a place as any to announce it for serious; I'm making a game for SA players, so if anyone here an account, be sure to check in when I throw up the thread this weekend.

The new metamagic feats are cool. I don't think Minimize spell will get much use, but Weaken Spell I will definitely take if my DM will let me. 1st level fireball? Hot-diggity-damn!
