edit: wait do they need to be on their own spell lists or not? i kept everything to what they already had, may look at alternative choices...uh, tomorrow at this point.
Yes. These aren't like subclass spells which can come from anywhere. Keeping them within their own spell list is a must for this project. I'll update the OP to make that clear.

...oh well, just ignore these suggestions then, i'd already picked most of them out when you posted this and wanted to finish the list anyway.

I'm going with what I'm trying to see as the most quintessential spells (IMHO) for each class and the game as a whole... with a focus on versatility (so when available, one offensive, one defensive/protective, one utilitarian.) My list will look similar to others with just slight tweaks.

Bard: charm person, disguise self, comprehend languages
Cleric: guiding bolt, cure wounds, bless
Druid: entangle, faerie fire, speak with animals
Paladin: divine favor, shield of faith, command
Ranger: hunter's mark, fog cloud, animal friendship
Sorcerer: chromatic orb, shield, feather fall
Warlock: hex, armor of agathys, hellish rebuke
Wizard: magic missile, mage armor, floating disc

I always liked Chromatic Orb except for the 50gp gem you need as a component. This means I cannot use it until 2nd or 3rd level and then I'm getting other spells. If you skip that part, it would be great at 1st level.

I find myself nearly in agreement with @DEFCON 1 ;

Bard: charm person, disguise self, comprehend languages (Ideal!)
Cleric: sanctuary or protection vs evil*, cure wounds, bless
Druid: entangle, faerie fire, speak with animals (Ideal!)
Paladin: divine favor, shield of faith, command
Ranger: hunter's mark, fog cloud, animal friendship
Sorcerer: chromatic orb, shield, feather fall
Warlock: hex, armor of agathys, hellish rebuke (Ideal!)
Wizard: magic missile, mage armor, floating disc

I would have sanctuary, or perhaps protection vs evil for the cleric instead of guiding bolt. They just feel more defensive a class to me.

I appreciate the placement of shield and mage armor in these lists. It feels right for the sorcerer to have the reflexive defense and the wizard the one that requires some forethought.

* Is it still called that??
