Homebrew Poisons

Considering you have about a 50% chance of failing the save, the effects last an average of 4 rounds...which is a lot of encounter time.

This is a very good point--I suppose it depends on what the player wants to do with poison. Does he want to smear it on his sword and poke people? Better to stick with ongoing poison damage, most enemies won't stick around long enough for a disease-like poison to matter.

Does he want to be a quiet, subtle assassin, picking off his rivals while deflecting all suspicion? Slow-acting poison rules are a better way to go.

Hmm...I think when I do poison I'll do the disease-style "poison track," and divide poisons into slow-acting (resist once per extended rest), fast-acting (resist once per short rest), and instant-acting (resist once per round). Actually, I might even add a fourth category of "resist once per exposure" for things like getting drunk. :)

These were all taken from the Monster Manual, so they should be fairly well scaled.

Astral Stalker Venom

This acrid black phlegm comes from the Throat Dart of an Astral Stalker.

Level 22 Poison
Poison 8,300gp
Special: This poison may be applied to a piercing or slashing weapon and takes effect on the first hit with the effected weapon.
Attack: +29 vs. Fortitude; ongoing 5 poison damage and target is slowed (save ends both).
First Failed Save: The target is immobilized instead of slowed (save ends).
Second Failed Save: The target is stunned instead of immobilized (save ends).
Venom-eye Basilisk Poison

Just being around this bright green clear residue makes your skin start to smoke and peel.

Level 10 Poison
Poison 500 gp
Special: This poison comes in a vial which must be thrown at the target.
Attack: +15 vs. Fortitude; ongoing 5 poison damage (save ends). As long as the target is taking ongoing poison
damage from this attack, the target deals 2 poison damage to all creatures adjacent to it at the start of its turn.
Greater Carrion Crawler Paralytic Ooze

This clear ooze contains golden flakes and ripples slightly, moving towards the nearest warmth.

Level 17 Poison
Poison 3,200 gp
Special: This poison may be applied to a piercing or slashing weapon and takes effect on the first hit with the effected weapon.
Attack: +20 vs. Fortitude; ongoing 10 poison damage and the target is slowed (save ends both).
First Failed Save: The target is immobilized instead of slowed (save ends).
Second Failed Save: The target is stunned instead of immobilized (save ends).
NOTE: All Saving throws against the effect of this Ooze are at -5 penalty.
Chuul Ichor

This reddish ichor comes from the tentacle glands of a chuul.

Deep Chuul Ichor

Hezrou Stench Gland

The vile stench from this noxious black encrusted gland is far worse than anything else you have experienced.

Effect: All creatures within 2 squares take a -2 penalty on their attack rolls.
Mezzo Spittle

This blackish spittle is straight from the mouth of a mezzodemon.

Special: This poison may be applied to a piercing or slashing weapon and takes effect on the first hit with the effected weapon.
Attack: +16 vs. Fortitude; ongoing 5 poison damage (save ends).
Vrock Spores

These small bluish spores make your head spin.

Level 13 Poison

Special: Vrock spores are carried in a small satchel and thrown at an enemy (Range 12).
Attack: +17 vs. Fortitude; the target is dazed (save ends).
Osyluth Dust

This dust can be blown into the face of the enemy, or made into a paste that adheres to weapons.

Special: This powder is kept in a paper wrap or satchel where it is poured into the palm and blown into the face of an adjacent opponent (Close Blast 1).
Attack: +20 vs. Fortitude; ongoing 10 poison damage and the target takes a -4 to its Will defense (save ends both).
Imp Venom

This inky black poison stinks of brimstone.

Level 3 Poison

Spinagon Toxin

This curdled yellow poison is collected from the spines of a Spined Devil.

Young Green Dragon Venom

Ettercap Webspinner Paste

This dull chalky paste makes any weapon coated in it much more lethal.

Iron Gorgon Vapor

Grell Goo

This viscous fluid is the collected spittle from a Grell.

Trust me in saying this isn't worth using... just trust me.

Special: This is a vial of troglodyte sweat, urine and spoor mixed into an appetizing mixture for all to enjoy. You throw the vial for (hopefully downwind) an Area Attack 3 within 12 attack.
Attack: +11 vs. Fortitude; target takes an ongoing 5 poison damage and is weakened (save ends).
Wyvern Vitriol

This nasty purple venom discolors anything it touches.

Level 10 Poison

Fell Wyvern Spite

This purple-black venom crawls towards anything living near it.
