Is it worth getting? I'm considering it for a S&B fighter. Overall, it looks like it would give almost as much damage as an energy bonus (flaming, acidic, etc) but without the need to worry about energy resistances.

It is the same. Resistances generally comes with DR. An extra d6 means the larger number you get towards energy resistance generally don't matter.
