D&D 5E Horror and Ravenloft adventure poll

Which is your preferred format for a horror Adventure Path?

  • Horror in a regular campaign setting

    Votes: 10 25.0%
  • A visit to Ravenloft

    Votes: 11 27.5%
  • A full Ravenloft campaign adventure

    Votes: 14 35.0%
  • Please, not a horror adventure! I'd never use or play it!

    Votes: 5 12.5%

Any of #1, #2, or #3 would suit me.

The one thing I don't want is for them to transplant Castle Ravenloft to the Realms. If they're doing Ravenloft, they should do Ravenloft. If they're not, and they're wanting to do a horror adventure in the Realms then that's fine too - just don't call it Ravenloft.

I've never found horror to work very well in D&D, but I've played a lot of Ravenloft over the years and I enjoy the setting for bringing something unique to the game. The best (and most horrifying) Ravenloft adventures for me have been one-shots where everyone musters a lot of dramatic energy and doesn't really invest too much in their PC's...a bit like the typical Cthulhu loop, but squeezed into 5 or 6 hours.

As such I voted "A visit to Ravenloft".

Options 1, 2, and 3 are equally acceptable. I have no preference, but do like well done horror adventures and remember Ravenloft fondly.
