Hot wire foam cutter?

Just wondering if anyone has advice on what hot wire foam cutter they like (or really don't). I really would like to cut some pretty good sized circles, and I doubt I can get a great cut with a blade. 2 inch thick XPS foam is what I'm hoping to cut for this.

thanks in advance!

I'm planning on undertaking this project myself on Thursday - circles on my hot wire Proxxon. I'll post the results on here. (My XPS is maybe 1 inch thick, for the record.)

I'm hoping Not to spend Proxxon money :).....as mostly I'll use a blade for cutting.

The woodland scenics cutter is pretty good, I never had any complaints and it's maybe $30. I have used a battery powered one that was fine and super cheap, but I don't recall the brand.

My advice is health advice : Make sure you wear a mask with filters and are using it in a well ventilated area. Preferably in a garage with the car door opened. A foam cutter is great but burning foam fumes are really toxic.

Yup, I will work outside for sure. Appreciate the reminder though.

I've done a lot of cutting with a utility knife, but nothing 2 inches thick. I think that will be a big challenge. Have you thought about using foam board? It's thinner and would be easier to get the shape you want.

I'm looking to build walls for a round tower. I am hoping to avoid making some thousand bricks......Most of the foam I'll cut for other projects is much, much, thinner (like foam board).

So, the walls would be around two inches high, and about an inch thick. The interior is about 11 inches diameter. I am doing to experiment with cardboard two-three different ways to see if I can get that to work out. Round is just a tough shape.......Something like 5 levels. So, that's just too many bricks for my level of patience. I'll likely post / blog about my efforts next week when I have time to work on this.

Cork board is great for that. You can even make curves. I buy mine at the dollar store in sheets of 12"x12".
