How many hours actually playing D&D?

I'm curious so thought I'd start two threads, one for D&D and one for all other games. This thread is for D&D. Edition doesn't matter.

The rules are simple. It needs to be 1) a live game, played in real time (sorry PBP gamers); 2) it needs to involve other people (sorry solo gamers), and; 3) it needs to be hours spent actually playing the game, so prep doesn't count, making characters doesn't count, reading the books doesn't count, etc. Only time actually playing at the table (whether real or virtual).

Simple question really. How many hours in this calendar year (2025) have you spent actually playing D&D?
An every other week session of 3 hours is what we do.

I agree with the others... you need more upper bounds if this is a YTD figure.
Meeting 3 weeks per month for 2.5 hrs for 10 months = 75 hours. Short sessions already puts me in your largest category, without accounting for the irregular play with my wife & kids.

This year I’ve only played a little D&D. The bulk of my RPGing has been with other games. I’d say about 30 to 40 hours of D&D. I played in a short 5e campaign of about 6 sessions. And I played in a OSE game that was a little longer. That’s been it for D&D this year.

Hard to say, because the game I’m currently playing in is extremely inconsistent in both frequency of sessions and length of sessions. But it’s a smaller number than most years, because the DM for our current campaign, a very good friend whom I love to death, is frankly both lazy about prep and bad at improvising. A lot of sessions get called off because she isn’t ready, and a lot of sessions end up short because she expected the prep she did to go a lot further than it did. I’m definitely playing in this game because it’s friends and family that I enjoy having an excuse to spend time with, not because it’s great D&D. I’m really eager to take back over DMing, and I think the group agrees, but we all want to support our friend’s DMing ambitions and give her the chance to practice.

I have three games currently, two in Fantasy Grounds that play weekly, and one in-person game that plays every other week. I've cancelled a few sessions here and there, but overall my number's in the neighborhood of 250 hours for 2025 so far.

This calendar year????

Hell, when I saw the options I thought you were asking about this calendar month! (for me, that'd be 30-40 now, 40-50 by month end).

This assumes DMing a game also counts as playing.
