House on Gryphon Hill Conversion

Demon Queen of Templates
Hey gang! I have been finally putting the finishing touches on my 3e conversion of the old House on Gryphon Hill module from Ravenloft. There are, however, several things I need help with.

The following items and monsters I am clueless about converting. Any suggestions would be helpful:

scroll of negative plane protection
brass locket of sealing
symbol of expulsion
Sun Blade (Unearthed Arcana, pg. 104)
elixir of health
dart of homing +3
elixir of displacement
rod of flailing
arrow of direction (I have a conversion for this, but its powers and cost are still in debate...)
staff of striking (ditto above...)
Strahd Skeletons
Strahd Skeleton Steeds
Strahd Zombies

Note: I have a feeling that the "Strahd" monsters are in the new 3e RL hardback, so converting them might not be necessary.

With these, I can finish up the mod conversion in no time flat and pack it off to Morrus for posting to the Adventure Conversions page :D

Grrrr. You evil woman! Do you know how much ink cartridges are these days? Now I gotta print out the original and your conversion, too!

Just kidding. Great work!

Nope...you wont have to print out the original. Since WoTC put HoGH on their site for free download, I can convert the entire text. All you really need are my conversion and the maps, which I can also post. :)

PS. Any ideas on how to convert the above items? Since a lot of those magic items up there are in the possession of the pre-generated characters in the back of the module, I suppose I could take the cowards way out and not convert those characters or their gear...

Negative Energy Protection

Level: Clr 3, Prot 3
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: Touch
Duration: 1 min/lvl or Until dispelled
Save: Will negates (harmless)
Components: V, S

This spell affords the caster or touched creature partial protection from undead monsters or any attack that bestows ability damage or negative levels. A protected creature struck by a negative energy attack is allowed a fortitude save. The fortitude save to avoid negative levels is the same as the save to remove damage after one day. The save for ability damage is 14. If successful the protected creature suffers no ability damage or level drain. Hit point damage is applied as normal. An attacking undead creature suffers 2d6 points of damage. A wizard using vampiric touch suffers no damage. The protection is proof against only one such attack and dissipates immediately afterword. This spell cannot be cast on the negative material plane.

How's this? The language probably needs cleaned up some, but it should work.

Ok gang, for those who have been eagerly awaiting my House on Gryphon Hill conversion, I have some updates:

I am now 99.99999% done with the conversion. I have only to find original versions of some outdated magic items and Ill patch off the whole kit and kaboodle to Morrus for posting on the Conversions page.

I have a few questions thought:

Are the Strahd Skeletons, Strahd Zombies, and Strahd Skeleton Steeds in the new Ravenloft d20 book? It would make my job a lot easier if I could skip converting them. It would also give less of a chance for me to annoy diehard RL players by doing an improper conversion.

Also...one of the magic items is called a Sun Blade. Its from the old Unearthed Arcana. Is that the 1e version of a Brilliant Energy blade?

Also...one of the spells mentioned is a Symbol of Expulsion. Apparently its a Symbol spell that teleports those that see it off to some unpleasant place.

Also...(again with the also!)...one of the magic items is a Brass Locket of Sealing. Never heard of it! Any idea what it is?

This one's easy -- it's already converted in the core rules! See DMG 189-90. ;)

Hey! Glad to see the conversion is nearing completion...I'll definitely check it out when you're done. :D

The conversion is coming along at a mighty clip now! There are only a few minor things I have yet to do.

Instead of trying to convert some of the magic items I mentioned, I simply replaced them with equivalent items. That made things a little quicker for me.

The only things I need now are information about the symbol of expulsion, and some kind of direction for the Strahd skeletons, steeds, and zombies.

Once I get these few things taken care of, it will b all finished!

strahd zombies

The monsters are not in the ravenloft 3e hardcover or the secrets of the dread realm but they are supposed to be in the forthcoming ravenloft monster book.

I have not looked at house on gryphon hill but from what I remember from the original ravenloft campaign boxed set they are double hit dice skeletons and zombies, I can't remember whether the zombies are speeded up so that they no longer have the restricted to partial actions quality. Was there also rules for severing body parts and they continue to attack?

For starters I would take the standard zombies and skeletons and bump up the hit dice (which will bump up other things like BAB and saves).

war horses are large so large skeletons would be a base for the steeds.
