House Rules You Don't Realize You Have

I reckon lots of people have the house rule that Detect Evil applies to Evil alignment when in fact the only mention of alignment in the spell refers to 'good alignment'

imho Evil Creature refers to a creature of Evil type

:heh: Our detect Evil is more like detect everything harmful to the party...ever

since Evil subtype is mostly outsiders (which are a seperate catagory, I don't see anything that says "evil creatures" means "creatures with the evil subtype", and D&D is usually specific enough for that. Also, it spells out that animals and other dangers aren't "evil", so I think it'd specifically exempt if it was just Evil Subtype.

So, IMO, you're using a house rule that you didn't realize was one. :)

We play that casting an alignment detecting spell or even discussing alignment is considered incredibly rude. So rude you're likely to end up in a duel or a brawl.

Also, out of lazyness:
Encumbrance rules are rarely referenced and largely ignored
Swim checks use an armour check modifier and maybe a circumstance modifier if the player is carrying a lot
Clerics can regain their spells at any time of the day with a bit of rest

That's all I can think of.

We don't play with material components, unless they have a cost.
Divine casters regain their spells just like arcane not at a specific time of day.
Summoned monsters act in the initiative right after theyr summoner.

It started out as forgetfulness, then laziness, and now its a house rule- combatants are not flat-footed on the first round.

How do the rogues feel about that? How do characters with uncanny dodge feel about that?

We play that meele attacking into a grapple has an equal chance to hit each person involved in the grapple. Apparently that is only supposed to be for Shooting into a grapple
