I hate to double post but is there any status updates??? Or should I count this as the second RPG "magazine" start up that I sent a submission to that died?

Hey Michael. Sorry for the lack of updates.

No, it is not dead! It is not, however, on the schedule I desired back in the summer (which would have had it coming out in this week or next). But it will be happening/getting done.

Advertising, as expected, has proven a might difficult to get lined up/confirmed. But I am feeling at the moment that perhaps an "issue #0" may be in order....just to get something out there/available for those interested...Ya know, prove that it will be an actual paper magazine in people's hands to lure in some interested parties.

Possibly even by the new year.

If you haven't sealed on the name, what about calling it "TableTops", instead of "Under the Table"?

I like that it is shorter, Stormonu...three syllables roll of the tongue better/easier than four. But the cover is completed with "Under the Table" in mind. Also, "Tabletops" doesn't really have that "what's going on behind the scenes/screen" feel that I liked for the existing title and the fact that I want to be able to include items of interest such as online resources, video games, and/or wargaming that are not really "table top" things.

At this point, I think "Under the Table" is what I'm going to go with...Can always "re-name/brand" at a later date. ;)

For anyone interested, I'm still more than happy to receive submissions for column/article ideas, artwork, advertising (of course).

Here's a look at the cover art done by a very talented artist from RPGFreelancer.net, Daniel Olsen. I very muched liked his cartoony/comic style for the "whimsy" it portrayed. Harkening to the "simpler" time of table top gaming that I grew up with (of course, we didn't understand it was "simpler" back then, since that was all there was besides your Commodore 64s and Intellivision and Nintendo games).

Have fun and happy gaming all...and thanks for the interest and patience.

I would be interested, but...

- It would have to be in print. I have no use for electronic-only material.

- It would have to be available in the UK at a reasonable price. I'm sure KQ is great, but at $32 just for the shipping costs for four issues it's too expensive.

Here's an alternative possibility:

There' plenty of "crunchy" articles in other magazines and on the web, how about a different approach and explore the gossip/opinion/humour route. EN World for example is a mine of material for D&D-related topics; nuggets of wit, humour and insight that eventually fall off the front page.

Then again you could just do that with a Blog. :hmm:

Print is lovely, but PDF have many attractive benefits - cheaper and easier - and perhaps therefore more likely to get produced. You can also offer it in print via POD.

Advertisers are difficult. Many these days see Google Ads as their most effective "bang for the buck" rather than publication specific advertising.

Great suggestions, Paul.

Humor, wit, opinion, and insight are all things I already planned to include (and yes, ENworld's community is a wonderful resource for this and the basic premise of the whole project)...but along with the crunchy bits for any/all editions/systems. A) because some people really like them/that focus of their game and B) I want/hope for it to be a useful resource for those who see something they like.

Also, interviews with creators, short stories/fiction and other "features" that are not "crunch" based specific...Basically, I want a fantasy RPG magazine that brings back...or rather "highlights" the FANTASY! ("brings back" may be a loaded statement as many would argue their fantasy hasn't gone anywhere).

PDF availability was always part of the plan, but in a limited content way. And PoD is a distinct possibility in addition to an actual run. IOW, if you miss grabbing a certain issue, I want to have some way of you getting your hands on an actual printed form.

RE: Advertisers...Don't I know it! lol. Makes getting a website up even more important as people are as interested, if not moreso, in having web-based advertising in addition to (or instead of) anything printed.

But thanks for the interest and suggestions.
