How big is your world?

Ashara Maps is the main map page I'm using, though I have a paper map with many more annotations than these. Right now it's still in the planning stages. I want it big.. really big.. just to accomodate the different cultures I want.

Right now, no real thought has been given to the planet. There are other continents, but the hostile humanoids in the seas (sahuagin, tritons, locolanths or whatever they are called, etc) keep most ship travel to the coasts. I have airships whcih travel fairly slowly, but they don't have the range to get them across the great ocean. They know there are some other landmasses, due to Divination and the like, but not visited yet.

Of course, most Rp occurs in one city along the great 'Nile', so the rest of the world has been painted in very broad strokes, just enough to give it some background and provide areas where things might happen later. And to explain how many things came to pass.

I generally make worlds about the same size as earth. Lets you keep such things as hours in a day, approximately where the tropics and artic extends to, etc.

Hmm, well lets just take a look. The map of Aduria (the expansion to Birthright I'm planning) covers a continent 3200 miles wide (east/west) and roughy 4200 miles long. The longest river is only 900 miles long, but the longest mountain range stretches for nearly 5000 miles. Also the largest lake is roughly 800 x 300 miles. The largest desert 700 miles across and the large forest/jungle a mere 200 x 300 miles.

My current campiagn area is based on a river that is 500 miles long, the kingdon has not extended their reach greater than 20 miles from it (each side).

The world is about the size of earth but has levels, you have the air, the surface then the underdark, so I guess it really is 3 times or greater than the earth.

Being that my world collides with the elemental planes, and is situated atop the lower planes, in what used to be a Cell of the Plane of Dreams it has no real end and no real beginning so it is as large as adventuring requires it to be, and as small as the eye of a needle.

Yes I know that was not what you really wanted to know but its my world...

The area my players are currently in is roughly the size of the United States, and Canada surrounding this area is the Fey Mists, and in the north eastern corner of the area their is the Mistlands, a devastated land that once was the Capital Kingdom of the Worlds elven peoples. When the white son of Darkness opened the Seal of Kirith thus shattering it and freeing Kirith again into the world he destroyed all of the land up to Grenai (300 miles away) and the nature of the land changed (A ring of mountains rose up and sealed the mists of Kirith from the rest of the world)

Some three thousand years later Sorcerers are hunted by Magic Hunters with born talents to kill, and stop magical beings The Elemental lords (or the last of them anyway) are attempting to stop the death of the Hearth (due to magic seaping out of the world) with any means possible. Fenyaronde the Ice lord in the north is slowly driving an Ice age down into the southlands, Whist the World tree has sent the Five from Llyrandwil, and Lord Death is rearing his ugly head and giving battle to the Fire King
Mysteriously the Sea King has fallen silent, and the Wind Lady has faded from the realm. The Nox Arcanum is beginning to loose the battle as magic fails to function. And it is snowing in Nyambra, coating the desert in a white blanket.

Just about everything SableWyvern sed about his world works for mine too.

My world is about regular world size, but it's actually a moon for a big pinkish saturn type world, which has other inhabitable moons as well. Something like Yavin in the original Star Wars.

Though one time, I thought of having a campaign world set up inside a shell surrounding a small star (a Dyson Sphere for you space gamers). This of course, would have made a campaign world of much bigness. Turning the star off at nighttime would be a problem, though. (I understand that pulsars are quite nasty!)

The Demon-Haunted Earth

My world is exactly the size of Earth. It's also exactly the shape of Earth. The continents line up pretty well with those of Earth.

In short, it's Earth. But different...

Feel free to contact me, so we can arrange royalties. Being a reasonable person, I will accept a once off payment from your players per PC to use my material in their backgrounds. Naturally, you'll need to be paying out for each session you run.
