How Can I Find Gamers?

I have a confession to make. Aside from running a few one shots with my old high school group (who really should stick to Warhammer, its safer), the only D&D fix I get is a great campaign I run with my wife as the only player. It's a fun campaign, she's a great player, but I miss the group dynamics. I want the weekly (biweekly) regular campaign again. I primarily GM, so that is what I am most interested in, but playing is cool too.

So how the heck do I find gamers? I'm looking for any suggestions, online boards, other forums, anything.

I should note that I am not averse to trying Virtual Tabletop or other but I'd like information about how to get started.

I also am aware of the RPGA/Living Greyhawk option, and it is an okay one, but I'm looking for a less restrictive environment.

Openrpg is pretty cool, you can google it, and enworld has its own irc chat site #dnd3e on irc.psionics.net, with lots of good folks who'd be happy to help you out.

Something simple you can do is to make sure you add your town to your profile, so it can show up in your posts. A lot of people like to put pithy things in this field like "over the hills and far away" but it's not going to help them find local players. You'll notice in mine it says "Dallas/Fort Worth Texas" so I don't miss the opportunity of running into other locals.

I think someone on ENWorld created an interactive map where members posted pins to where they lived. Search in Google on "ENWorld Interactive Map" and see if it shows up.

When I'm looking for players I will normally put a little blurb in my Sig that I'm looking. As has been mentioned, it is very important to let people know where you are located as well.

Even if you're not a big fan of the RPGA, if you're willing to play in it a little, it may be a good way to network with other local gamers, and thus find people who might be interested in a home campaign, as well.

Put something in your sig saying that you are looking for a game and then post here. Someone near you may read your post and ask you about it.

I put a sign up in my FLGS to get new players. I got 4 players that way. Plus the 4 players I got also know some other gamers so we're set if anyone ever drops out.
