How close to the Rules As Written did/do you play AD&D1?

Right all part of the old table top system where every thing was done by rulers or tape measure.
For those keeping score at home: It's just dropping a zero. The units are in fact never actually used as literal inches on the table top -- unless you're doing a battle with greater than 1:1 figure scale. I think that hardly anyone did that, especially without Swords & Spells or Battle System, so the whole legacy was probably more a head-scratcher than anything.

I agree, that is why I said that it was likely that 80% or more just ignored this part of the rules. It really did not add any thing. Heck we house ruled the different scales as soon as some one actual figured it. That took a few months and we were all in our twenty's when AD&D 1ed came out.
