How did Genasi end up in Faerun?

Another thought.. what would happen if a celestial and a demon/devil produced an offspring? Just re-read my "Preacher" collection, and wondered what that would be like in 3ed... scary though..

In INS/MV (the game that was *cough* adapted for the american market as In Nomine), there was such a creature. She was named Ange, and was the daughter of an angel and a demon. As a result, she was both, or rather have the potential for being either. There was a twin adventure (roughly the same, but one for demon PC and one for angel PC), and if the PC succeeded it, Ange joined their side (and the enemy's side if the PC failed).

In the cannon material, however, she became an angel, the Archangel of the Converted (demons and other evil creatures who change side). Otherwise, she would have had the reverse role, Demon Princess of the Fallen.

You can have a similar story for D&D: the outsider, still young, is neutral, but will not stay this way. The side he'll join depends on the actions of the PCs.

Or maybe the creature would simply enter the head of the player cleric, thereby annihilating the entire Chauntean church in Shadowdale with all its inhabitants inside (including Elminster).. and then he can join up with the two other players, a female rogue/assassin and a sembian vampire... LOL... :=)

Because FR is the Borg of D&D. Everything gets assimilated. Take a look how the Greyhawk demihuman deities became FR deities, for example.

What I found amazing along the same lines was one of the spells dealing with portals is only available to wizards in MotP is available to all major spellcasting classes in FR. When querried about why this would be, a WotC staffer quipped that people in FR have a more everpresent need for the spell.

To which my reaction was: WHAT!? The planar cosmology is all about portals.

I dunno. I think this is my number one beef with FR... it's just gotta have everything, and as a result, it is an astounding mishmash of setting elements.

Okay, so what was the first appearence of the Genasi? From a purely out of campaign point of view, had anyone heard of Genasi before Planescape? Were they created for that setting or were they adapted from other sources? What about Tieflings and Aasimaar?

My big complaint is; why are Aasimar, Tiefling and Genasi not templates as they should be? Even the article in Dragon mentioned planetouched gnomes, dwarves, elves and the like. And yet, you can only have plane-touched humans.

Oh, and my other question, A2Z: are we meeting at Jim's place tomorrow?

Hey Josh,

I agree with you about the template, but it wouldn't be too hard to say you're Tiefling/Aasimaar/Genasi looked like a dwarf or an elf or whatever without changing the game statistics.

I hadn't seen your last e-mail, so I just looked at it on the web. BTW, I did reroll my stats since you didn't like the PcGen version, but I haven't yet sent them to you -- there shouldn't be any real surprises there, though. It looks like we may be a little light on the healing department though: one paladin and no clerics?

I might rethink my concept -- not sure yet.

And yeah, you could just use the genasi stats with a plante-touched humanoid description. That doesn't seem like a very satisfying solution, though. I think a better way to do it would be to tone down the half-elemental template in Manual of the Planes and work from that.

Yep. We're on for 7:00. Don't worry too much about party composition. You guys can play what you want and I'll worry about how easy it is for me to kill you're PC's off.
