WotBS How different is too different for posting adventure write ups?

Hi everyone!

It has been quite a while since I last posted, nearly eight months, and I wanted to share a bit of what has been going on as well as ask whether my campaign is still a good fit for this board. (Jump to bolded part if you don't want the very abridged backstory)

In my last updates, I mentioned that my father had passed unexpectedly and that I was also dealing with a difficult player situation. Before addressing that, I took a few weeks off from dnd. After coming back I had a much needed conversation with my player that went really well, & we were able to move forward.

I did end up making a fairly large change to the end of Module 2 because of that issue. At first I worried such a departure might not belong here, but my group loved it, and ultimately the story reconnected with the module so at the very least I will be posting the remainder of our Module 2 adventure in my main thread over the next few weeks.

A bit more backstory before I hit my question: Shortly after the party entered Dassen, a disagreement at the table caused two of my players, friends of over a decade, to leave and we have not spoken since. It was/is painful, but was a needed turning point for me as a DM and as an adult with self worth.

In the immediate aftermath, I was not sure if I wanted to keep the campaign going at all. For a time, I thought I might simply end it once the party delivered the case to the Lyceum, so I actually created a mini module expanding out Module 3’s traveling through Dassen into full multiple one shot adventures. During that time a new player joined my table with a fantastic character concept that reignited my inspiration. My group was deeply enjoying certain threads, especially the Trillith, so I began expanding those elements while still drawing on the richness of the WotBS world.

So, my question is this: As I am finally in a place where I would love to start sharing my players adventures again, would these write ups still be appropriate to share here?

While the published modules remain the backbone of my story (we will still visit the almost all of the same places, meeting the same characters, and honoring the spirit of the saga), but the path we are walking is branching into this, I think, wonderful interpolation of WotBS and mine and my players imaginations. Maybe that’s what suppose to happen? This is my first venture into DMing a campaign so I’m still very much learning.

I want to be respectful of this space and of the author’s vision, so if my campaign’s divergence makes it better suited to its own journal, I am completely fine setting one up and linking it at the end of my Module 2. But if a “fanfic” style WotBS journey is welcome here, it would mean a lot to bring this community along for the ride.

The WotBS and Zeitgeist adventures make mention many times that they are not meant for railroading players and that you should make the campaign your own. My personal, unofficial opinion is that any story writeups that build on those two campaigns (or for instance, Adventures in Zeitgeist) would be a good fit here.

Very sorry to hear of your father.

I get inspiration from other's stories and how they have added, removed, and deviated from the main story line. If the story grows and changes from the written material, then it serves as and example of what can be done. While the campaign has one basic path, their are deviations the players can take which expand and produce an excellent story in itself. That in itself is not only enjoyable but inspiring.
