How do Forsakers find the magic items?

Magic Destruction: The forsaker gains access to his
damage reduction ability (see above) through the de-struction
of magic items. If he goes more than 24 hours
without destroying magic items whose market prices
total at least 100 gp per point of damage reduction, he
loses that ability until he does so.

Would you like to explain were this ability says the forsaker has the magical ability to destroy magic? I read it to just say that they are supposed to destroy items however they can to gain the ability listed.

Technically, by how magic destruction is written. If the Forsaker holds an item in his hand that is magical and declares magic destruction its magic is drained from it. So, every item he picks up should have that done to it. Its the only way to be sure. :p

It says no such thing.

Sorry, but it really doesn't.

I think the proposed house rule allowing the Forsaker to detect magic a number of times equal to 1+ Wis modifier woudl not itself be a magic ability. Assume magic items have a magical aura, and the Forsaker's eyes have become attuned to seeing this aura when he focuses his will to the task. I'd make it a supernatural or extraordinary ability.

Absolutely, Mistwell.
The Scent feat isn't a magic ability.
Sensing magic items could just be having your senses attuned to the "energy" they put out.

Hmm, or possibly just have the forsaker destroy most items he comes across and hope some of them are magic :). When he needs to replace things, either make them himself or buy them from someone he trusts not to try to sell him a magic item.

Would be fairly antisocial in a party (of course, the Forsaker is pretty antisocial to begin with by his theme and flavor).

I would limit the Sense Magic ability to touch only. They touch it, and can feel the subtle burn of magic.

Or perhaps scent, they can smell the stench of magic but ban only pinpoint the source within 5 feet.

Of course, a cruel joke would be casting Nystul's Magic aura on alll their equipment.... :)

Buy that would, in a sense, make their equipment magical, and many if the items would have values over 100gp.

No, it doesn't actually make it magical, anymore than a coat of paint will turn a red slaad into a blue slaad.

That is a great image and very funny. :D

Edit: Now, we need to fit that into that old Slaad farming thread.... ;)
