When my wife and I asked if we could use an alternative method (this was 2E) the DM literally laughed and said that it was fair because everybody rolled.  We didn't stick around for very many sessions.I don't know what problem you're trying to solve.  But since this isn't a short term or one-shot it's not something I would do without 100% positive feedback.</blockquote>
