How do you feel about the ENnies so far?

Y'know, I'm not much of a buyer of game material. I tend to feel that if I can write it, I don't need to buy it, and I write a lot of what interests me. But this year, looking at the nominees list, I admit that I'm impressed. Some of settings don't really interest me, but almost everything else looks really cool. This is, in no small part, due to the phenomenal art direction for some of these products, especially the White Wolf ones.

So I might actually buy some of these products. For me at least, the ENnies have done their job. They got me to see high-quality products that I might have overlooked otherwise.

How about you?

Showing me great products I wouldn't have looked at otherwise -- great.

Making my votes seem almost worthless, because I had only examined less than a dozen nominees -- not so great.

But I guess I prefer it that way instead of the other way around. :)

I too am rather impressed with the list and think that it really is one of the best gaming awards based on product value.

I am concerned about the cost of the event on the other hand.

My thoughts exactly.

In addition the products which are nominated I actively look for to see if I may want them or not when I have the chance to see them.

I'll utilize the recognition to spread the love of products I already love, but I'll admit that I doubt I will buy anything based off the nomination. I think that a dozen discussion threads here on EN World go further towards where I spend my money than an Ennie nom.

The biggest factor in getting my money is a new pbp game that uses a book. I'm a whore for a good pbp game. I think I bought a couple dozen books in the last six months due to the pbp forums here and on groovygamers.

As there were no WotC products on the list, I only voted half-heartedly. I play and buy D&D these days, and most of the stuff was "i guess" or "who's that?" I was only there to support Privateer Press and Iron Kingdoms. :)

WotC's fault for not submitting anything.

I really was trying to encourage publishers around here that, if you're nominated for an ENnie, you should put up a pdf sample of your product. I didn't see any. That gets my goat.

Well, DHR reduced all their prices by half and still has a freebie available, I think.
