How do you fight a god? Four gods?

So tonight was the first night with everyone there.

To recap, our group was:
Lv.2 Fighter, Barb, Wizard
Lv.1 Cleric, Rogue
I put them up against a group consisting of:
Lv.3 Cleric
Lv.2 Fighterx2
Lv.1 Sorc (truestrike with cross bow) and rogue.
This NPC team wasn't ubered up. The only edge they had was the fact that the cleric was Lv.3 -and- evil so he couldnt insta-heal the group up.

They were on a ledge with no way to run (just so they actually fought as this group is geared to fight). The fighter runs up to meet my NPC group. The Sorc and rogue pepper him with bullets taking 11 hp away from his 26 total hp. The barb decides to hide behind a tree so she can't get shot at :( .

The wizard tries to take a few pot shots with his bow but fails that. The NPC fighters rush up to meet the fighter while the barb finally gets it in her head to bring her great axe into the equation. The PC cleric joins the barb but takes a fierce hit (7hp) from one of the fighters. The NPC fighter gets hurt by the PC fighter who returns the favor. Since the PC fighter is still the only one in view, he gets hit with more arrows. The NPC fighter drops the PC fighter to -3 hp.

The Barb lands a solid blow splitting one of the NPC fighters in half (2 hits or one good one would take either NPC fighter out). The PC cleric slapped a heal on the PC fighter but only healed 2 pts instead of the 3 needed to bring him up. Then he takes an arrow to the face and falls himself. The Wizard moves up to cast a strength draining spell but the NPC fighter rolls a 20 to save.

The wiz then gets slapped around and he falls as well. Finally the lv.3 cleric (who was standing behind the lines all this time) walked up and cast "Cause Fear" on the Raged Barb which she promptly failed with a roll of 5.

The PC rogue was then taken out with a cruel blow to the temple by the cleric.

The map was basically a U with the party at the bottom and the NPC party at the top. Two trees were placed around the middle with 'shrubs' indicating an area where only half movement was possible. What was very clear to me in the begining was how the group, instead of rushing en mass trickled down the middle between the trees which the NPC party actually used to get out of the way of the wizard/rogue's bows.

Instead of a everyone being dead I'm just going to have them be captured. I'll go over it with them and introduce 'tactics' to them :(

Have the big chief in the temple geas them and use them for evil missions :D

Make them really hate him ... while the populace hates them! ;)

I had no idea where to take them, but I think I'll do just that. Have them be 'sold' as slaves and then a modified Geas spell. Thanks Darklone. Now I can start the campaign without too many bumps :)

A friend of mine had customized magic necklaces for such things... Kinda geased/charm person, with some domination and command charges.

I check if I find them somewhere.

Yet more proof that a point-buy system is the fairest means of generating characters.

Fair to whom? It seems like they pretty much all had roughly equal stats.

They got thier stats by rolling 4d6 drop the lowest. : /

Yeah, but was it "roll 4d6 drop the lowest, in front of the DM", or "roll 4d6 at home, drop the lowest" ? :)

Also, to be completely fair, you would have to use balanced dice and a cup to roll the dice. I know a guy who can roll a 6 50% of the time on any d6. :)

The rogue's stats were pretty low. He got a 17 which he put into dex and chose halfling to get 19 dex. He only has 7 str which is a little draw back (he uses a crossbow). The one who plays him DM's his own game but didn't even try to flank anyone :/ He just kept trying to shoot the highest AC npc fighter missing all the time.

The dice were mine and infront of me. At first I was happy for them, because I wasn't going to be the GM, just another player.

Aparently though the best stats in the world won't help you if you 1. hide behind a tree 2. have your best guy go up against 5 other people for four rounds solo and 3. See your wizard pal is not using spells.
