Currently I organise mine by type ... ie doors, stairs, traps etc. The big disadvantage is that this means a lot of little bags ... and having to decide what to do with tiles that have different feature types on either side.

I'm thinking about just organising by size ... 2 x 4, 4 x 4 etc. This has the advantage of being much faster for setting up the dungeon in session. Finding specific tiles would be more of a pain, but I can always sort the special ones out before the sessions starts.

In either case, I'll keep the different environment types (woods, pyramid, caverns) separate.

I have a shoebox each for the Wilderness, Underdark, and Dire Tombs sets, each box full is then divided by tile size and stored in ziplock bags.

These three sets are different enought to be kept seperate from the others.

All other sets are mixed together and bagged by tile size.

On a side note, I have been using this blue clay/gum-like product that I guess some people use to put posters on walls. (Got it in the office supply section of Rite-Aid, a local drug store type place). ...anyways, make a few small globs of this stuff and you can mash down another tile on top of it and it will stay in place quite well. Worked great when putting down the coffin tiles on the big open room tile. And when you are done, pull the tiles apart and the gumy stuff comes off perfect.

Also, lesson learned, DO NOT draw/write on Dungeon Tiles with a permanent marker like a sharpie. I thought I could go over the sharpie ink with a dry erase ink and wipe it clean. It actually worked on my tiny trial sample. But... I dont know if it is a matter of time for the ink to dry, or the amount of ink I used, but It did NOT come off clean after the game. It came off with alot of work, but not 100%

I organise my dungeon tiles by searching for [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Dungeon-Tiles-Dungeons-Dragons-Accessory/dp/0786943483"] Dungeon Tiles pack 1[/ame], but it's not in print anymore, and I'm certainly not paying $40 for it. Maybe if WotC printed some more then I'd have some dungeon tiles to organise.

I scanned and printed off the 2-page tile map from the back of the DMG. I placed them both in sleeves, and I draw on them with dry erace markers.

Both sheets together can generaly make any sized room I want. I use maps for combats only, so I don't need to build an entire dungeon out of tiles.

Alternately, when DDI's Map maker comes out, I'll probably spend a whole lot of money on ink, designing and printing off personalized dungeon layouts and tiles.

Shoebox like T-bone. I keep all mind in just one and rubberband all the same sized pieces togeter. The real small units (single 1x1 pieces, and maybe the 2x1 pieces too if I recall) just float around loose in the box.

This was really my big issue with dungeon tiles...

Honestly, it just takes me too long to use them.

I got a 1" grid presentation board from Office Depot for $20, and I just draw most of my dungeons ahead of time.

Under that, I have a Chessex mat that I use the hell out of.

With great difficulty! :D

I currently have them stored in various zip-lock bags in a plastic tub. They are sorted by both size and type. The stairs are with the starts for example but they are probably also in the same bag as similar sized tiles.

The trouble with the zip lock bags is the tiles tend to get mixed up in the bags themselves. This means I can't quickly look and see which tiles are in a given bag. That was what I was originally hoping for but it hasn't worked out so well.

I know there must be a better storage option out there but I haven't found one as yet.

I use transparent plastic shoe boxes (got mine at The Container Store) and sort them first by general type (e.g., Ruins of the Wild has its own box), and then by size (in fairly broad categories). My 16 sets fit in four boxes, and it'll be a while before I have to expand, barring another special set like Ruins of the Wild.

I've been thinking about using 800-count card-boxes to sort more thoroughly by size, but I'm not sure yet. (The larger pieces and special sets would need to stay where they currently are.)
