tablet pc

I have a large number of .pdf files (most purchased D&D form svgames).

I've been thinking about getting a tablet PC for a number of reasons, but one reason would be so I could read on-screen just like a book (without scrolling). I could also carry my whole collection around with me this way and read what I want.

Has anyone else considered (or actually went with) the tablet PC for reading?

If it's a short PDF (less than 50 or 60 pages including the TOC, title pages, and other acutrements), I usually read off the screen and print the highlights, templates, classes, etc. that I'll be using.

If it's a big book, I look over it on screen and see if I would be interested in printing it out (I'll use it a lot, I want to show it to someone in my gaming group, etc...). I usually print the bigger things b/c I'm old-fashioned and like paper in my hands....

But then again, I still write first drafts with pencil and paper... :)

I WISH I could afford the paper and ink to print them out, wow.

If you're printing things out double-sided and on a b/w laser printer, it's not so bad.

But considering the prices for PDF's do not take into account the printing and distribution costs that print books have tacked on to them, I'm fine with printing things out from the fiscal aspect.

Never printed one yet. I just can't justify using our inkjet printer. In fact, I think the last time I used it was some time last year. The expense frightens me.

Hence I've gotten very good at screen reading.

I printed out the first PDF I bought, which I can't remember the name of - it was the print version of Pools of Radiance (the computer game), but it had a different name, Ruins of something.

This was back when Wizards was selling them, and they gave me a coupon worth $4 off my next order. (Pdfs were $3.95 or so back then). So I got the biggest PDF available, which was the original Forgotten Realms setting.

I tried printing that out, but it ate up both inkjet cartridges about 1/3 of the way through (and I was using 'economy mode').

So, the upshot of it is, I stopped buying 2E pdfs, and the occasional d20 PDF I've bought, I just printed out the important bits, like character classes or tables.

I would print them out if I could afford it, but mostly I just read them on screen. (I don't like it, though, PDF format is not the best for on screen. Some enterprising company should try the Microsoft ebook format.)
