how do you store your D&D minis?

I've been buying a good amount of minis lately but I'm looking for a good way to store and transport them other than a cardboard box. Something with compartments to sort them would be nice as well. Any ideas?

Tackle boxes work well. A friend just bought a big one that seems to work really well. It has four trays, each with closing lids and numerous compartments just the right size for minis. If you are concerned about them bouncing around too much you can hit a craft shop for some foam and line the compartments with that.

one of those box things people that sew use to hold their threads and stuff, with slide out draws and all. Dunno what they're called. A tackle box could be used, with the compartments up top for minis you will need for this game (NPCs and PCs, monster encounters, etc), and the bottom can be a dumping ground for all your other minis. I don't know how many you have, so that might not work...

Personally, I have them all in one of the boxes from the entry packs..

Good luck!

plastic or metal minis?

D&D minis = plastic

I also use the Chessex cases for my metal minis.

Yeah, something like that. I don't know what they are called either. :)

I second tackle boxes. In Ohio there is a hunting and fishing store called Gander Mountain. They sell an inexpensive line of cloth tackle boxes that have several plastic boxes with dividers inside. They make a 3, 4, 5, and 6 box models. They are made by another popular fishing company, but are relabeled with the Gander Mountain brand so if there isn't one near you, I am sorry I cannot be more help.

I think I am ranting. Here's the point: Look to cloth tackle boxes. They are easy to carry and usually hold a good amount of minis.

Well one of each mini goes on a shelf in my gaming area.
The rest are sorted into these tackle box carriers and sorted by type (undead, animals, humans cannon fodder (orcs, hobgoblins)) etc.
Also the bulk of my duplicates go in a big box on the bottom shelf for my boys to play with. :D
