Thanks for the info, everyone. The line from Elektra that Sfounder mentioned about the Sai being an offensive killing weapon was specifically what got me thinking about it...it's good to know I was on the right track, and Hollywood got it wrong (gasp!).
Of course, all discussion of real-world martial arts techniques kind of flies out the window when you;re dealing with a world that contains, potentially, six-armed Marilith monk/assassins. But the real-world grounding info is still good to know.
