How do YOU use the planes?

Well ... to be honest in my games I liked for the gods realms to be as far away as possible. The main scene of action was on the prime material plane, and maybe a little jaunt into the ethereal or astral.

So ... I'd have to agree with kb9jmq and the others and say as little as possible.

Other planes the PCs visit don't have to be/include the realms of the gods, y'know. :)

Possibly not ... but still, I prefer the adventures to be almost solely in the prime material plane and not "rubbing elbows" with extraplanar realities and forces so much. But that's a personal taste thing, I guess. I know many others who use the planes more frequently than I do.

That's fine; I'm not trying to bust you in the chops. I just know what throws some people is the idea of mere single-digit-level mortals in the realms of the gods, and it really doesn't have to be that way. There are many possibilities.

Well said. It is true. For me its not so much of a question of power balance....

Just personal taste I guess - so I let the planes be when I concoct adventures.

I don't use them much in my current campaign, at least not actively. The campaign is about stopping creatures who have their origin in one of the planes, but those creatures are pretty much here already (though I might have the climax of the campaign revolving around stopping them from opening a portal to the other plane). Other than that, the closest brush I've had with planar adventuring in my current campaign is when one of the PCs was hit by a Prismatic Spray, and would have been shifted to another plane... if he hadn't remembered that at mid-levels, you roll TWO dice for action points and take the best.
