I used to be a terrible potion horder but I'm getting better. I figure, the dm is going to give us more stuff, might as well use. Further, if I die in a battle, then I won't get to use the potions later.

Is there an option for selling? My SCAP group typically receives metric buttloads of CMW potions, since one of the two main standard mooks comes equipped with one. You can sell CLW potions for 25 GP each. Sell 30 and you can buy a 50 charge CLW wand. You can sell CMW potions for 150 GP each. Sell 30 and you can buy a 50 charge CMW wand (or something cooler, like a Handy Haversack and a +1 Sword)

Found: I either sell them for something more permanent or drink em like candy.

Bought: I use them when needed. I only buy specialized 1-shot items. If I'm a caster, I get a scrolls (1-2 each) of spells I don't want to bother memorizing. This applies to wands, potions, etc as well.

In general, I don't like 1shot items. They almost always feel like a waste of money.

Since we have an artificer in the group, it's just short of Red Bull time. :) She tends to spend his points on scrolls right now, but the party normally has access to at least a couple different potions when they need them.

My group tends to drink healing potions semi-regularly.

If they are out of combat they will get the Cleric to heal them with his wand of CLW or spells first before they use the potions. If they are in combat and aren't near the Cleric they will drink a healing potion.

Most of the other types of potion tend not to get used too much though. They all drank Remove Disease potions when they came out of a diseased area and a couple of PC's drank potions of Water Breathing before going down a swift river. Other than that though, the potions have sat in their backpacks for several levels, waiting for that rainy day when they might get used.

Put them into the backpack and promptly forget about them, is my party's usual tactic.

"Wow, we could have used this potion" is commonly heard after an encounter when we game ;)
