How does Hat of Disguise work?

Asmo

First Post
I´ve just found a Hat of Disguise, and I´m sure that my scout can use it in his line of work.

The Dungeon Master´s Guide says that its CL is 1.

Player´s Handbook says that " if you use this spell to create a disguise, you get a + 10 bonus on the Disguise check.
A creature that interacts with the glamer gets a Will save to recognize it as an illusion"

What is the DC for the Will save?

Do I roll for the Disguise check, or is it a flat DC?

Will a disguise kit give me a +2 bonus on the check?

I would be very glad if someone could explain to me how this hat works :)

DC= 10 + Level of the Spell + Bonus from minimum ability score to cast spell

DC= 10 + 1 + 0 (from Int 11)= 11

Note that a will save is only called for when the person interacts with the Illusion; viewing it is rarely cause for an interaction will save.

Disguise check vs. opponents' Spot check.

If you are using the spell to create a disguise, you get a "+10 [unnamed] bonus to your Disguise check".

A Disguise Kit gives you a +2 circumstance bonus to your Disguise check.

They stack.

Okay, first of all, the Hat of Disguise helps you look like anyone/anything else within the same broad height/weight categories. This is a huge help in Disguise checks, adding a +10 unnamed bonus; a Diguise Kit adds a circumstance bonus, so they stack.

The only time a Will save will come into play if someone "interacts" with it; generally, this would mean that if you appear to be wearing full plate mail due to your hat of disguise, if someone taps you on the shoulder or does something similar, they would get a Will save. Merely seeing it would have no chance to resist (other than the Spot check, of course).

Interacting doesn't mean touch. Talking to a guard is also interaction.

It's cool to fit into a crowd, but not so cool, if you are up close and personal.

But not interaction with the illusion. The illusion doesn't have to do anything in response to the guard's words, so the guard isn't interacting with it.

Yeah, a still picture of a guy you are talking to is very convincing. Especially if the guy talks back. ;)

If you think a still picture is all the spell produces, then why wait for him to talk? People should be getting Will saves at fifty paces whenever the guy walks down the street.
