How does it feel to be duped by WotC?

Honestly, when I read the Tome of Battle I was hoping that was the direction 4E would take and it sounds like it is. So, for that, I gotta say thank you WotC! Thank you for listening!

Seriously, how does it feel to know the quality of the D&D books the past 2 and a half years, starting with most likely the Planar Handbook, that instead of making material for the sake and love of our 3.5E games, these books have been nothing but us customers secretly playtesting the material they want to try out for 4E?

They've admitted to us as much already. The biggest of their "playtests" book on the list was Tome of Battle. What kind of underhanded crap is this? Here I thought,"Magic of Incarnum, Tome of Battle, Tome of Magic cool! They're taking 3.5E in new directions and I can't wait to see this material supported!" But time passed and nothing was supported.

And now the realization has come when they plainly admitted to us why. Since they started on 4E a little over 2 years ago, we've been doing nothing but buying playtest books. And you expect me to trust you guys with 4E also? Screw that! I won't be duped any longer and neither should the rest of us!

From substitution levels, to alternate class features, to reserve feats, skill tricks, martial adepts, and the Warlock class....all of it was just a slap in our face and was never meant for our 3.5E games. They were meant for them trying to sell 4E to as many of us as possible.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I don't like a company that treats its customers like monkeys. That's what I feel like now, we're in this cage of addicition to D&D, playing alongside, arguing, and flinging crap at each other and at WotC outside the cage. They throw us a book or two our way into the cage and see how we react all for their stupid experiments in screwing us over in the end.

I'm no monkey or slave to this market anymore. WotC, you've lost so much touch with your loyal and true fanbase, the very people that kept it alive for 30+ years. All for a bunch of snot-nosed kids and warped adults that couldn't fathom the appreciation and traditions for D&D because of their mind-numbing MMORPGs.

It's going to be a long, long wait. I will be here a good year from 4E's official release to see where it's gone. Hopefully into bankruptcy so maybe a better company can gain a better hold on it.
Fight on, Brave Internet Warrior. Fight on.

God forbid they try to make the game more fun. How will my players ever be able to count my cieling tiles again? Will they forget the spot on my wall at which they stare so uninterestedly at? Will I never hear the standard "I hit three times for 53 points of damage" again?

Edit: the most amusing thing about all this is he wants another company to get the name under control. What's the first thing they would do? Another edition to make some money off the name.

All of the "playtest" books you mention are expansions, that nobody *had* to buy to run their game. If you did buy and use them, all you were doing was taking your game from 3.5 to 3.75 without realizing it.

And, now you'll have all the support for those bit you liked that you could ever ask for. :)

Umm....I got no qualms about "playtesting" 4th edition through my purchasing of the 3rd edition splatbooks for the last few years. I had a ton of fun playing all those games and using those books, I feel I got my money's worth. If that led to the new edition having better rules, then I'm happy I bought all those books.

If 4th edition is crap, well I still HAVE all those books so no harm done either way.

I like 3rd edition. I might end up liking 4th edition better. Who knows until we see the final product.

You never know, maybe we can have cake and eat it too!

Right. It would be far better if WotC just stopped supporting D&D for 2 years while they worked on D&D 4e. :\ Really it was a win-win scenario. We got some great books, and WotC found out what worked and what didn't.
