How does one control a Simulacrum?

I've never really looked at this spell before today, and was wondering how this bit would work:

No special telepathic link exists, so command must be exercised in some other manner.

Any ideas? I can't think fo how it would work off the top of my head. Is the Simulacrum intelligent? Can it operate by itself? Would dominate monster and rary's telepathic bond work?

You wouldn't need dominate monster - the simulacrum is "under your absolute command". The text you refer to just stresses that it's not a mental command - that is, the simulacrum spell doesn't give you any additional way to communicate with your creation.

So you could just say to your simulacrum, "Go here and do this", and it would, no spells necessary. But if you want to command it without speaking to it, you'll need something else - message, whispering wind, rary's telepathic bond, sending, things like that.

The simulacrum is indeed intelligent - that is, if the base creature is intelligent - so it will do its best to follow our orders.
